Intranet predictions for 2026

David Bowman and Jarbas Horst from Fresh Intranet share their 3 bold predictions for how AI will reshape workplaces in 2026. They reveal why AI-generated content is creating an employee attention crisis, how Microsoft 365 organizations will consolidate software tools to cut costs, and which job roles face the biggest AI disruption.

The hosts explain how easy AI content creation is flooding employees with generic posts and emails, making people tune out completely. They discuss the hidden costs of AI licenses across multiple platforms and why smart organizations are moving everything into Microsoft 365 to maximize their Copilot investment.

Most striking is their prediction about internal communications becoming one of the most AI-augmented roles, with autonomous agents handling content creation, sentiment analysis, and even system maintenance tasks.

Three bold predictions that will reshape your organization in 2026

The workplace is evolving rapidly, and three major shifts are converging to transform how organizations operate. These predictions from industry experts David Bowman and Jarbas Horst reveal critical changes every executive should prepare for now.

AI slop will trigger an employee attention crisis

Organizations face an unprecedented challenge as AI makes content creation effortless. Jarbas Horst warned that “we risk by using AI too much to lose people’s attention and the interest for the content we are creating.” The problem stems from AI-generated content following predictable patterns that employees quickly recognize and dismiss. Meanwhile, every leader can now produce massive amounts of material instantly, creating what David Bowman calls “everybody on broadcast mode all the time.” Organizations must establish guardrails and prioritize what truly deserves employee attention.

Microsoft 365 will drive massive software consolidation

Companies heavily invested in Microsoft 365 and Copilot will consolidate their software stack to maximize AI capabilities. Horst explained that “if Copilot doesn’t have access to that information, we are basically losing that context.” Organizations paying 30 dollars per user monthly for Copilot alongside additional AI costs for separate applications will find consolidation financially logical. Any system outside Microsoft 365 risks being excluded from the AI ecosystem, creating pressure to move internal tools like intranets and knowledge systems into the Microsoft environment.

AI agents will transform internal communications roles

Internal communications sits at the perfect intersection of what AI does well – content creation, summarization, and personalization. Bowman noted the “huge overlap between what AI tools are really good at doing and what internal communicators need to do.” However, the real opportunity lies in augmentation, not replacement. Smart communicators will build agents that assess multiple requests, analyze employee sentiment, and balance organizational priorities against personas and values. Those who embrace AI as a collaborative tool will thrive, while those who ignore it risk obsolescence.

The common thread across these predictions is clear – AI will reshape every aspect of organizational operations. Companies that proactively address these shifts will gain competitive advantages, while those that ignore them will struggle with employee disengagement, fragmented systems, and inefficient communications.

Organizations should start preparing now by establishing content governance policies, evaluating their software ecosystem alignment, and training communications teams on AI collaboration techniques.
