Release Notes – Q3 2024

Introducing custom fonts, editorial calendar and push notifications in Teams.

It’s our third release of 2024 and it’s a belter, loaded with new features and enhancements. We got custom fonts to give your intranet a branding glow-up, an editorial calendar for harmonious content planning, push notifications in Teams so you can get your messages in front of everyone, even those notoriously hard to reach; and, if you’re a Valo customer, we’ve made it even easier to transition to Fresh with our extended support for hub sites. So, without further ado, let’s dive in.

Custom fonts in your Fresh intranet

You’ll know that having a consistent look and feel across your website and intranet helps to create a unified company identity. Consistent branding across all your digital touchpoints not only reinforces your organisational culture it makes your employees feel more connected and aligned with your company’s values and goals too.

That’s why Fresh is rolling out the ability to use custom fonts in your intranet and Viva Connections from August. We’re following on from Microsoft’s recently announced support for ‘custom fonts’ as part of its Brand Center. Starting this August everyone using Fresh will be able to up their branding game to make their intranet look and feel just like their website.

So, if your company has a specific font as part of its branding concept, Fresh will enable you to use it in your intranet. You’ll also be able to use your custom fonts in the Fresh web parts, components and Viva Connection cards.

Editorial calendar for content planning

If you’re fed up with planning your intranet content in an Excel spreadsheet, this next Fresh feature is for you. From August, you will be able to use an Editorial Calendar for planning content in both your SharePoint sites and Viva Amplify.

Communications teams will get an overview of the content that’s available in the intranet in draft-mode, pending approval, scheduled or been published all within a single calendar or list view.

They’ll control publishing and see all the content in one place. Use the Editorial Calendar to spot content clashes and highlight important announcements, making content planning a whole lot easier.

Announcements as push notifications in Teams

Reaching people with important announcements in Teams, up until now, has been nigh on impossible. Yet, with the latest Fresh release blanket broadcasting (and crossing your fingers everyone will see your message) will be a thing of the past.

With Fresh announcements, you will be able to reach both desk-based and frontline workers with important information in the place they’re most likely to see it – the Teams desktop or Teams mobile app.

Sending your announcement as a push notification in Teams, you can target information to user groups, on a specific date and with its very own call to action.

Use the announcement feature wisely. Keep them short and don’t overdo it or you’ll reduce the impact of your messages and people will start to ignore them. As a rule of thumb, announcements aren’t designed for life-threatening emergencies, more for reminders or specific call-to-actions with a link to more information.

For Valo clients transitioning to Fresh, our hub site support got a boost

To simplify the transition from Valo to Fresh, we’ve added in extended support for hub sites, improving search and findability of content and simplifying the intranet structure.

So, you’ll be able to keep your hub site structure when transitioning from Valo to Fresh. And your people will be able to discover related content such as news and other site activities, and search for information from all associated sites. Win, win.
