NEC Group Customer story

The NEC Group is all about Bringing Live to Life and knows how to put on a good show. The NEC Group is one of the leading venue management companies based in Birmingham showcasing various events across 5 venues. The NEC, The ICC, Genting Arena, The VOX Conference Centre and Barclaycard Arena. They also have a national ticket agency, The Ticket Factory; hospitality brand, Amplify; and award-winning caterer, Amadeus. Operating 9 brands in total, the NEC Group now contributes more than £20.1 billion annually to the local economy.

Problem

The NEC Group employs a workforce just over 1700 employees. With such a large sporadic workforce, the NEC Group had recently implemented a new Microsoft Office 365 project. Given the extent of this development, they decided they required a new vision for their intranet.

The existing SharePoint on-premises site was running out of support and struggling to operate effectively, presenting some risk for the business. It could fall over at any time and potentially lead to losing key business information. There was a clear need to modernise their digital platforms, they implemented Office 365 with the accompanying requirement to follow that up with an effective intranet to help drive adoption and consumption.

Solution

The NEC Group required a central communications platform that allows them to connect with staff and teams, as a result they created the intranet #Livewire. The events management company opted to create divisional sites based on their brands. Implementing divisional sites allow each of the brands to share departmental news, while providing their functional teams with access to tools, search, popular content, team and document collaboration sited.

NEC opted for Fresh Intranet. Joe Kamara, Lead Business Change Manager explained the appeal of buying Fresh: “We learned our lessons that in-house development and meeting business requirements is a challenge for a diverse business like ours.
